The Nazca Lines

Posted on by Anna

Nazca is a beautiful city of Ica district, located in the middle of the desert, although has an altitude of 590 meters. It has a population of 57500 habitants. Each year millions of tourists visit the city, especially to fly over the Nazca Lines, declared a Unesco World Heritage from the year 1994. These are one of the most attractive things to see there. One German mathematic, Maria Reiche, dedicated all her life to study this mysterious phenomenon. There are more than 800 lines, 300 geometrical figures, and about 70 animals that the population of Nazca designed between 900 and 600 A.C., digging the earth and moving the rocks near the Lines. And the dry weather has permitted the conservation of them till today. Many theories exist about the origin of the Lines. The most famous say that they are an astronomic calendar, which helped the Nazca to develop the agriculture. Other theories are about the adoration of Gods (Apus), and others are about a track for the Olympic Games. Still today, there’s no sureness about their meaning and their beauty.
