Beijing, city of contrasts

Typical areas surrounded by buildings, historical Beijing is the neighbour of commercial Beijing. How is it possible ?

In the streets, good looking men met disabled people. New electric buses drive near old buses, recent cars met old cars, big restaurants and improvised places at to eat in the corner are presents in the same street... I have this impression that Beijing growed up quickly, too quickly. In some places, time stopped, in other, European way of life invaded the typical Beijing. How Beijing can breeze ? There is no time to do breeze. There isn't enough space to welcome people, that's why there is more and more buildings, more and more subways, more and more highways inside the city up to the old highways.
Old people seems to be overtaken by events. They just looked the life in the streets (typical areas for the most), maybe they wonder if it's true or not. Sometimes I have the feeling they don't want to know how the city is working, how does it look-like now...Besides young people seems to enjoy this way of life. Speaking english is common for students. Like a chinese girl said "most of Chinese students are better to speak english than to speak and write Chinese". On the opposite side, young chinese people who haven't the chance to study can't speak english... it's all or nothing

Chines people are very proud of their history, most of places are restored and keep an old aspect. For instance, most of access to the great wall are restored and full of people... but if you’re brave, you want to see more, you can see the weight of ages, nature took back her rights...

There are lot explications to this. At first, for the government, economical power is the key and big cities like Beijing are a showcase. Globalization is everywhere and the occidental way of life is a proof that the country is okay and healthy. Secondly Beijing wants to be a attractive place for foreigners like europeans and americans that's why there is so many commercial areas. Finally no matter if there is not enough space, China is evolving Beijing has to prove it
